Only Today
Only today, the horrible things that we live through
Who knows what lies tomorrow
Any other day would mean as much
Even more terrible things are not still ahead of us
Only today, I saw people without human faces
The children with swollen eyes
The people with frozen feet and helpless little hands
Only today, I saw what human misery really means
Old people and young ones wrapped in rags
Chased away, infected
Only today, I saw how a person could go mad
During the night, slowly going mad
When we moved people they went mad
Only today, they fear of house searches.
Only today, we live with fear and no faith.
Only today, I'm ashamed to ask for a cup of tea or a slice of bread.
Only forever, will I remember of only today.
